When I wrote last about The House, Barbados, I hadn’t realised that it has won an award with Traveller’s Choice as 4th best Romantic hotel in the Caribbean. Yay!! and is now the top of the Trip Advisor ratings for hotels in Barbados at 97%. Now I know everyone should take these number with a pinch of salt but…… can’t help it. When Tamarind went through it’s complete refurb, I watched as the Trip Advisor ratings climbed – but it was slow due to some previous ratings, which was a shame if people do follow TripAdvisor religiously.

But I had planned to speak of a completely different hotel in this blog. That of the Bougainvillea on the South Coast. It’s so easy if you have read all the blurb about the affluent West Coast, to miss out on the joys of the South Coast. Particularly if a family. No, even a couple or single. Yes, the seas are calmer on the west coast, but depending on the time of year, are still very calm in the South. Bougainvillea sits on a fabulous stretch of beach and has two great restaurants. You can self-cater, there is a small convenience store nearby, or you can easily ‘bus’ it to the Big B supermarket and they will bring you home. I would recommend having breakfast there and self-cater the rest. Barbados Travel Deals can give you all sorts of tips for eating out without the fine dining tag.

5 mins drive – or local transport (see earlier posts or ask us, to see how easy) to St Lawrence Gap where there are lots of restaurants and bars and Oistins, a few mins further, for your Friday night fish supper cooked on the site and with a party atmosphere with locals and tourists alike.

Currently there aren’t many South Coast hotels on the Barbados Travel Deals website as the website deals mainly with the 4* and 5* luxury hotels on the west coast. In the South, we display Bougainvillea Barbados as a lovely self-catering option on the South coast and Casuarina as the ideal family All Inclusive haven in St Lawrence Gap. However, we do offer a wide variety of hotels all across the island, even on the East Coast (although this is rare, as far away from most facilities).

In the South, the easy-on-your-wallet Butterfly Beach is a wonderful option for a great base for seeing all of Barbados, sitting on a long stretch of white sands. It is one of many hotels in the laid-back south of the island which offer great value for money and are close to the ever-popular St Lawrence Gap and the fishing village of Oistins for your Friday night street party.

There isn’t a hotel in Barbados that Barbados Travel Deals can’t find a great deal for you so start by searching the website, or simply tell us what you are looking for you and we will match your wants and desires with our Barbados expertise.  So for unbeatable Barbados holidays, contact Barbados Travel Deals.

Have I spoken of the tourists areas of Barbados and Barbados tourist attractions. For people planning to come on Barbados holidays for the first time, it may help you decide on your location.

The two main tourist areas of Barbados are Barbados West coast and Barbados South Coast. I have stayed numerous times in both and love the different charms of both. The Barbados West coast is one of the premier destinations in the Caribbean with its world-renowned Sandy Lane hotel and a host of simply sophisticated luxury hotels on beautiful beaches with still turquoise waters, and fine dining. The Barbados South Coast has a variety of simpler accommodation, the beaches are expansive, the waters start to get a little more lively the further south you go, but that also allows the partaking or watching of kite-surfing as the Caribbean sea starts to join the Atlantic ocean.

On the Barbados South coast, there is a livelier nightlife, particularly with Harbour Lights night club in St. Michael and then further down to St Lawrence Gap where there are great restaurants and bars. Further South still, you get to Oistins fish market, where you have to spend your Friday evening eating a fish supper cooked in front of you and where the locals and tourists meet for what is like a street party.

Of course not all night life is in the South as the main town on the Barbados West coast is Holetown and this small town offers some of the best restaurants in Barbados – fine dining and simple options – and is easily accessible from most of the Barbados West coast hotels.

Talk to us at Barbados Travel Deals for more information and places to go to eat both to keep your budget down whilst on your Barbados holidays and to experience the wonderful Barbados fine dining opportunities.
