I often get asked this question and the truth is that you can travel to Barbados any time of year. There are however, various compromises that you may need to make. The weather is changing worldwide, and so these are generalisations based on many decades of historical measurement, but no guarantees. That said, in terms of the weather, the best months are still January through to April, as they are the least rainy and the least humid, and they tend to be a couple of degrees Centigrade cooler than other times of year. The official hurricane season for the whole region is June to November, with any potential major storms occurring between August and October. This doesn’t stop families pouring in during the summer holidays from around the world – possibly because it is understood that Barbados, being the most easterly island in the Caribbean, means that it usually escapes direct hits. If you travel in the late summer or autumn, there is a much higher likelihood of rain.

I’ll admit that one trip in September a few years ago, we had three full days of torrential rain. My husband (Bajan) had never seen anything like it. Having said that, we still had an amazing time and I have never had feedback from any of my September Clients (or even family living in Barbados) which has matched our exceptional trip. So don’t let this put you off September as it is humid and potentially rainy but it has it’s advantages. Price! and if you want a quieter trip, most of the travelling families have gone back to work and school.

So price, well the weather plays an enormous part (along with UK holidays of course). Christmas and New Year are premium prices for flights and accommodation – very much so, as it is such a wonderful place to be for the season. The top hotels are full very early in the year. Flights are taken up well ahead of time, leaving the more expensive seats for late-comers, if at all. Still worth trying if you’re interested. If there is any availability, Barbados Travel Deals will find it. Hotel and Villa rates are also much higher from mid-December to mid-April than at other times of year.

May is a great time to travel as the weather is still lovely and the prices have started to drop significantly. June prices are some of the best, with a slight risk of rain. If you want to go in the winter without the huge cost, November and early December are good. If school holidays are a must, then the May half term will be more cost-effective than the Christmas, Easter or summer holidays.

The only other thing to consider is that the quiet months of September and October are often the time that hotels use to close and renovate and some restaurants and bars may be closed. It is true, but I’ve never found it to be a problem. If there’s somewhere you really want to visit, just ask us and we can tell you if it’s open or not.

That’s it for now. Just call us at Barbados Travel Deals on 0845 6434 606 or 01977 524235 or email at info@barbadostraveldeals.co.uk to get some further advice or options for different dates.

Flying Fish Kids Clubs – new activities
And big news regarding the Flying Fish Kids Clubs at Turtle Beach, Crystal Cove and Tamarind and the Kids Corner at Colony Club. There are exciting new activities and excursions lined up for kids this summer. The already integrated on-site activities such as arts & crafts, games, beach sports, watersports and swimming, but in addition, families can now sign-up for the new Bajan Adventure Kids Camp including off-site excursions such as horseback riding, catamaran tour to swim with sea turtles, surfing lessons, submarine tours, eco-adventure hiking tours, and more! Parents can join in or take some R&R whilst their little ones explore and learn about Barbados.

For more information on any of these new additions, just call Barbados Travel Deals on 0845 6434 606 / 01977 524235 or email info@barbadostraveldeals.co.uk. They’re great hotels and they’re simply offering even more.

When I wrote last about The House, Barbados, I hadn’t realised that it has won an award with Traveller’s Choice as 4th best Romantic hotel in the Caribbean. Yay!! and is now the top of the Trip Advisor ratings for hotels in Barbados at 97%. Now I know everyone should take these number with a pinch of salt but……..you can’t help it. When Tamarind went through it’s complete refurb, I watched as the Trip Advisor ratings climbed – but it was slow due to some previous ratings, which was a shame if people do follow TripAdvisor religiously.

But I had planned to speak of a completely different hotel in this blog. That of the Bougainvillea on the South Coast. It’s so easy if you have read all the blurb about the affluent West Coast, to miss out on the joys of the South Coast. Particularly if a family. No, even a couple or single. Yes, the seas are calmer on the west coast, but depending on the time of year, are still very calm in the South. Bougainvillea sits on a fabulous stretch of beach and has two great restaurants. You can self-cater, there is a small convenience store nearby, or you can easily ‘bus’ it to the Big B supermarket and they will bring you home. I would recommend having breakfast there and self-cater the rest. Barbados Travel Deals can give you all sorts of tips for eating out without the fine dining tag.

5 mins drive – or local transport (see earlier posts or ask us, to see how easy) to St Lawrence Gap where there are lots of restaurants and bars and Oistins, a few mins further, for your Friday night fish supper cooked on the site and with a party atmosphere with locals and tourists alike.

Talk to us at Barbados Travel Deals if you’re interested in Bougainvillea but want to know more. Call us on 01977 524235 or email at info@barbadostraveldeals.co.uk. Happy to chat.

The fabulous-looking Sandals LaSource Grenada has moved the opening of its resort in Grenada from December 12th to December 21st, due to “adverse weather conditions and other operational challenges.”

“This is a profound disappointment and we sincerely regret the impact this delay will have on our guests, our partners and team members in Grenada,” Sandals CEO Adam Stewart said in a statement, whilst offering Clients who have booked, a very favourable compensation package.

This hotel does however, look amazing and one that this Agent hopes to be recommending to Clients in the near future. Stewart writes that it “will set new standards of hospitality”

In the meantime, the Sandals resorts across the Caribbean have a new addition in Barbados which will be followed by a ‘Beaches’ family resort where the Almond Village used to be. This blogger quite recently wrote about the Casuarina resort in Barbados having been hugely renovated and managed by the ‘Couples’ resorts but was then bought by Sandals who are now putting their stamp on it.

For any of the Sandals resorts throughout the Caribbean, Barbados Travel Deals have great offers. Discuss the various islands with us and let us help you find your dream holiday. Call 01977 524235 // 0845 6434 606 or email info@barbadostraveldeals.co.uk

The Elegant Hotels Group continues to gather accolades from various Travel Industry bodies including a Gold Magellan award for The House in the Standard Room Design category and a Silver in the Upscale Resort/Hotel category. All five properties and Daphne’s received the 2013 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence award.

Colony Club reopened on 1 October unveiling the new restaurant and rooms which had been renovated during the September closure.

The House is now Number 1 on TripAdvisor due to their impeccable service. The reviews are wonderful!

Crystal Cove’s latest upgrades are mainly focused on the outdoor and dining areas. With new stylish pool deck furniture and an overhaul of Drifters restaurant, now their Reflections restaurant will present an equally stylish new look. Also great news that Crystal Cove will be introducing all day dining.

And Turtle Beach will also be focussing on their outdoor and dining areas, updating all three restaurants during the next few months.

And with the lovely Tamarind hotel, that makes up the five Elegant Hotel Group’s Barbados properties covering West and South, All-Inclusive and various board options, Adult only and family-friendly.

If you want to spend Christmas and/or New Year in Barbados, you need to sort it now! There are very very limited flights around the critical times and sometimes you will have to pay extra to get an Upper Class seat just to get you there!

If you call me at Barbados Travel Deals, I can check all available options and if not Barbados for your dates, look at other options in St Lucia, Grenada or other similar to get you the holiday you’re hoping for.

Please consider now. Don’t leave it any longer as these islands – particularly Barbados – are incredibly popular (and sadly expensive) for this wonderful holiday time!

I hate disappointing people and have so many Clients getting disappointed because their exact flight dates are not available and they have to compromise.

Let Barbados Travel Deals get you the Christmas and/or New Year that you’re dreaming of. Call 0845 6434 606 or 01977 524235 asap.

I’m not sure if everyone has Skype these days, or at least everyone who regularly contacts someone abroad, but if you’re a bit of a luddite or you simply don’t have the need for Skype, or the person you need to contact doesn’t have Skype, then I’m just reminding people of the services available to make cheaper phone calls.

I have been using planet numbers for over a decade (www.planet-numbers.co.uk) but there are equally cheap competitors now so I often check the latest. Dial123.co.uk, Dialtosave.co.uk, justcall.co.uk are all approx 6p per minute UK landline to Barbados landline. Watch out for the extra connection charge (Planet-numbers doesn’t charge for connection). You dial an ‘08′ number, then you’re told to dial your contact number so for Barbados 001 246 and then your 7 digit local number. Simples.

Although debatable, when a Client asks me for somewhere a bit ‘different’ in Barbados, I almost always go straight for Little Arches and Little Good Harbour. Two very different properties with the former being in the South, close to St Lawrence Gap and all it’s fun life in the evenings and particularly close to Oistins for the friday night street party and wonderful fish fry, bringing locals and tourists from all over the island. The latter, Little Good Harbour is on the west coast but north of the ‘West Coast strip’ of hotels, closer to Speightstown, a charming little non-touristy, almost run-down looking town (look for the charming as there’s plenty to find). Little Good Harbour has the famous Fishpot restaurant and it’s fishing village offers it’s own Friday fish fry. The only potential downside to Little Good Harbour is that it’s easier to get out and about with a car – hence the real hideaway feeling.

Call us at Barbados Travel Deals to chat about it as there is still public transport – and obviously taxis – that can take you into the more populated areas if you wanted. An escape from Barbados glitz right in Barbados!

Barbados’s most famous caves are Harrison’s, this large cavern full of beautiful features is one of the top attractions on the island and well worth a visit. However, a much lesser publicised adventure is the Animal Flower Cave in the parish of St Lucy at North Point.

It is off the beaten track as is most of the north of the island. Tourists tend to stick to the West and South coasts with surfers and visitors to the East Coast. The North however, is often missed and yet has some of the most stunning scenery on the island. Head for the Animal Flower cave and even if you don’t go inside, you’ll be captivated by the spectacular views from the cliff sides, but do go inside for a bigger wow factor as you can swim in the natural pools and see these views through the cave openings. This series of caves at sea level with a 400,000 year old coral floor have been eroded by the sea and are now populated by sea anemones and flower-shaped animals.

Barbados is coming towards the exciting climax of the festivities of Cropover 2012!

This Sunday, 5th August, is Cohobblopot, held at the Kensington Oval. Cohobblopot, traditionally a big pot of a mixed stew, is the penultimate concert at Cropover with local and international performers and an utterly vibrant atmosphere.

Followed the next day – a national holiday in Barbados – by Grand Kadooment, the grand finale of this annual festival, and the main attraction for visitors – many visiting especially at this time.

Grand Kadooment is the carnival where thousands of masked and boldly dressed and colourful merry-makers dance, calyso style through the streets of St. Michael’s parish. From Warrens to the National Stadium and then down to the Spring Garden Highway towards Bridgetown. Many thousands line this 5 mile+ route – it is a thrilling and uplifting experience and the climax of the Cropover festival.

Plan your holiday for next year in Barbados and let Barbados Travel Deals help you arrange your dates to ensure that you’re on the island in time for your favourite events.
