In the Sunday Times yesterday, it refers to the ‘blinged up and flashier hotels……of the west-facing Platinum coast of Barbados‘. Although the west coast is the more affluent area, there are still great lowish-costing deals on the west coast for luxury options. Staying at Tamarind or Mango Bay will deliver everything you may want. The South coast is generally more affordable but still has amazing hotels on wonderful beaches. Bougainvillea or Ocean Two are favourites for luxury but easy access to the St Lawrence Gap and Oistins nightlife. I’m not sure that I agree with ‘better for watersports and nightlife’ as I love both coasts and if you want to just sail up the west coast on a catamaran on still turquoise waters (as we do), the west coast is it. If you want to party in St Lawrence Gap every night , then maybe the South coast is for you, but restaurants and bars are in abundance in Holetown on the west coast. Wherever you are, it’s easy by public transport or taxi to get to Oistins in the South for the ‘must-do’ Saturday night street party.

If you’ve been to Barbados before (or even if you haven’t) and you’d like the excitement of Barbados but then to escape from it all for some of your holiday, there are places in Barbados, but even better, take yourselves off to Palm Island or another hideaway in the Grenadines. Most islands are a short 45 minute/1 hour flight from Barbados. On Palm Island, you turn off all your Wi-Fi devices (there is very limited access) and forget television or word from the outside world (again, very limited on purpose).

Staying for a week at eg. The House in Barbados, exclusively for adults, peaceful and relaxing on the west coast of Barbados so you can do as much or as little as you’d like, then take a 45 minute flight to Union Island and a 10 minute private boat transfer to Palm Island. The idyllic Caribbean with no less than five beautiful white beaches and crystal clear turquoise water and easy access to the best scuba-diving and snorkelling around the Grenadines – think ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ (the movie, not scary people) at Tobago Cays.

At prices from£ 2,500 pp, this is a holiday of a lifetime, but you can even bring the price down with a different luxury Barbados hotel. Talk to us and let us help plan your special holiday. Call on 01977 524235/ 0845 6434 606 or email

Missed blogging for a while. About time I caught up.

So this is about Spice Island in Grenada. I haven’t been yet but I’ve been doing my research over a long time and am so keen to go. It’s expensive but seems worth every penny for a topnotch luxury caribbean holiday. I shouldn’t really mention tripadvisor cos it doesn’t always deliver ‘true’ results but Spice Island is considered the Number 1 resort in Grenada and has won Traveller’s Choice 2013 for Best Service. Its location on the Grand Anse beach seems second to none along that 2 mile stretch of beach. The all-suite accommodations are spice coloured with generous sized everything and what’s more, every suite is a few steps from that awesome beach. The accommodation, the high quality cuisine and the service excellence all go to create a 5 star holiday of a lifetime!

Often people calling looking for a ‘different’ Caribbean experience are not even aware of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, known to the locals as SVG. People may have heard of Mustique in the earlier Mick Jagger days, or more recently from the villa holiday that William and Kate joined the Middletons on. SVG consists of 32 small islands and cays that offer the ultimate Caribbean experience, sort of Robinson Crusoe desert island style, a short flight away from Barbados.

A villa on tiny Mustique is an option, but so is their one exclusive hotel, the Cotton House, a favourite with international jet-setters. Bequia (pronounced Beck-Way) is adorned with villas and also offers the Bequia Beach hotel as their exclusive hideaway. The most popular with my clients is the private island of Palm Island’s sheer escapism. Or Young Island, again a desert island just for you. Another affordable favourite is Canouan, staying at the rustic -newly refurbished – Tamarind Beach hotel in a Beachfront room. Heaven.

Finally for this blog, on St Vincent itself is the relatively new Buccament Bay, a family-friendly all-inclusive resort which is winning awards left, right and centre.

All islands provide a base for sailing to other islands and cays – Tobago Cays has the wow! factor – and diving and snorkelling in some of the best waters in the world. These are magical islands offering holidays of a lifetime!

We at Barbados Travel Deals are working with Roger’s Scuba Shack to help provide the best scuba diving experiences for young and older and for beginners and experienced divers. My husband Bee worked for many years in Barbados with George, Roger’s brother, and Mark makes up the team of three brothers.

For keen divers, make your Barbados holiday extra-special and team up with the Hurley brothers at Roger’s Scuba Shack, on beautiful Carlisle Bay, close to the Hilton, Barbados hotel.

Chattel houses in Barbados have such a negative name for us women of the 21st century – even for Emillene Pankhurst i’m sure. However these wooden dwellings peculiar to the island of Barbados are a delightful part of the scenery for me now.

With a chattel house traditionally being a man’s moveable possession (including their wife), it has connotations that pre-date any liberation of woman but they have surpassed that and are simply houses that were traditionally constructed on top of blocks, so that if the owner had to move to another area, then he would literally take his house with him.

That function of ‘moveability’ is still present with Barbados Chattel houses, albeit for an owner of any sex. The distinct and increasingly ornate design developed over time becoming these uniquely attractive, generally brightly coloured smallish houses.  Chattel houses are a delight to see in Barbados.

Just a five minute walk from Almond Beach Village and also recommended for anyone staying at Little Good Harbour too. La Bouche Wine Bar and Restaurant is in Speightstown, the small town on the north of Holetown on the Barbados west coast. La Bouche Wine Bar is one of our favourites and most people return often once visited. The ambience is great from the bar downstairs, tourists and locals alike, and the restaurant upstairs in La Bouche Barbados overlooks the wonderful Caribbean sea.

They have Steel Pan music on a Monday, the fresh fish dishes are lovely, the prices are very reasonable, burgers for the kids are a favourite (very child-friendly place) and if it’s a Saturday, you could be brave (in my eyes) and have the local puddin’ and souse, a Bajan traditional Saturday dish.

Your hosts, Wayne and Austin, are lovely and welcoming. When on your Barbados holidays it’s a place you must try for lunch, dinner or just for a couple of drinks when you’re on the west coast of Barbados.

The Sunbury Plantation House has a 350 year old history and is the only Barbadian Great House where all the rooms are available for viewing.

Sunbury Plantation Barbados holds a beautiful setting for a small wedding or celebration, or simply to enjoy a lunch or afternoon tea together with a leisurely walk around this wonderfully historic Barbadian Sugar Estate Great House and grounds.

The Courtyard restaurant of the Sunbury offers an a la carte Menu, a scrummy Bajan Buffet and an English-style afternoon tea with scones, cake and sandwiches and there is a stylish Candlelight Plantation Dinner for that special occasion.

Sunbury is off the regular tourist path, and can be found in the countryside of St Philip Barbados, Just before Six Cross roads.

On my first Barbados holiday many many years ago, I was advised by the Travel Agent that I booked my Barbados holiday with to drink bottled water and to avoid the Barbados tap water.

It wasn’t until I was there that I discovered that Barbados has one of the cleanest water supplies in the world, purified in fact by the Barbados coral making Barbados drinking water / Barbados tap water in fact quite good for you, not to mention palatable.

Barbados is a haven for relaxation and attracts the health conscious, with a plethora of alternative methods of medicine and spiritual retreats in all corners of this wonderful island.

Vaccinations aren’t required for travellers from the UK to Barbados. And even for the tourist, Barbados has a high standard of health care which is easily accessible to all.
