In Barbados, their festivals are one of the ways in which they celebrate their unique culture. Visiting during any of the following will add fun to your holiday and allow you to share in the Barbadian way.

So looking to 2013, the great festival calendar starts with the Jazz festival in January.
Then from 10th February, a week of the Holetown festival, showcasing Barbados traditions – it is a celebration of the arrival into Holetown of the first settlers in February 1627. It’s a fun place to wander around, watch some performances, eat great local food, shop for local crafts etc.

A less well-known festival but one I’m certainly looking forward to is the Celtic Festival Barbados, held in 2013 between May 23rd and May 29th. Professional musicians from Ireland, Scotland and Wales playing at various venues across the island. A very exciting festival sharing some of the Celtic links with Barbados. Music, food and beautiful sunshine!

Then of course, the renowned Cropover festival, often mentioned on this blog, in July and into August. As it sounds, this is the equivalent of a Harvest festival and a wonderful traditional celebration on the island. Closer to the time, I will post a calendar of the highlights.

And dates yet to be announced, but another up and coming festival that gets rave reviews! The Barbados food, wine and rum festival in november. I’ll let you know!

Barbados is coming towards the exciting climax of the festivities of Cropover 2012!

This Sunday, 5th August, is Cohobblopot, held at the Kensington Oval. Cohobblopot, traditionally a big pot of a mixed stew, is the penultimate concert at Cropover with local and international performers and an utterly vibrant atmosphere.

Followed the next day – a national holiday in Barbados – by Grand Kadooment, the grand finale of this annual festival, and the main attraction for visitors – many visiting especially at this time.

Grand Kadooment is the carnival where thousands of masked and boldly dressed and colourful merry-makers dance, calyso style through the streets of St. Michael’s parish. From Warrens to the National Stadium and then down to the Spring Garden Highway towards Bridgetown. Many thousands line this 5 mile+ route – it is a thrilling and uplifting experience and the climax of the Cropover festival.

Plan your holiday for next year in Barbados and let Barbados Travel Deals help you arrange your dates to ensure that you’re on the island in time for your favourite events.

Great news for the Cropover festival in Barbados. Their very own and now a worldwide name, Rihanna, is finally performing at the Kensington Oval on her home island of Barbados.

On Friday August 5th 2011 as part of the Sweetest Summer Festival, Rihanna will bring her stage show and full entourage to Barbados in what is being dubbed her ‘Home Coming Concert’.

The Barbados Tourism Authority is very happy to have been able to make this a reality for Barbadians and for visitors to the island / those on Barbados holidays. It also adds an amazing promotion during the Cropover festival in Barbados.

A bundled ticket is to be offered for Cohobblopot (the best of social commentary performers and plenty of all sorts of dancing) and the Rihanna Concert, offering an ‘early bird’ ticket to allow people the opportunity of seeing the two biggest Barbados shows of the year at a reasonable price.

Tickets for the bundle will go on sale as of Friday July 8th 2011.

A limited number of early bird tickets for Cohobblopot only are already available from all NCF box offices for US$25.

Rihanna’s performance will be part of her LOUD world tour. It will be a very special concert in Barbados!

Cropover events have started already. Brits familiar with the cropover festival often visit for Barbados holidays on the last week of July and first of August to enjoy all the events through to the beginning of August (August 1st is Kadooment Day this year).

I’d recommend taking your Barbados holidays midweek at the end of July (if you can fly from Gatwick – otherwise Monday from Manchester) so 25th onwards, and staying for at least a week so that you take in the big day that is Kadooment Day.

Call us at Barbados Travel Deals (TravelYes) for the best in Barbados holidays as we offer most Barbados hotels and Barbados villas on the island i.e. not just the luxury Barbados hotels promoted on the website, and can always find the right location, style and comfort for your purse as we know the island of Barbados inside out!

The Cavalcade crop over events is one of the warm-up events for the 2011 Crop Over festival. Cavalcade is held at Emerald City Car Park at Six Roads in St Phillip.

The Cavalcades at crop over are a series of outdoor concerts which are held across the island, where thousands of party goers attend. Cavalcade makes a great time for Barbados holidays as it’s so much fun!

For most people who have experienced Crop over, the first thing that comes to mind is thousands of people dancing and enjoying themselves at Party Monarch and the Cavalcades or dancing along the Spring Garden Highway on Grand Kadooment Day at the end of the celebrations.

For affordable luxury Barbados holidays, visit Barbados Travel Deals for the best selection of Barbados hotels and Barbados villas and maybe even combine a Barbados holiday with a Grenadines holiday.

Although some events are already happening, such as the greatly successful Youth Rally and Cavalcade this past weekend, the Crop Over festival 2011 is scheduled to begin on Saturday, 2nd July with the traditional BNB (Barbados National Bank) Opening Gala which features the Ceremonial Delivery of Last Canes, with events continuing through to Grand Kadooment and Emancipation Day at the beginning of August.

The proposed slogan for Barbados’ premier festival in 2011 is ‘Crop Over – The Sweetest Summer Festival’ and there are aims to see the return of some of the traditional aspects once prominent in the festival such as community based events and folk music. If you are planning your Barbados holidays, you can see a calendar of events at Crop Over 2011 at;
