Although debatable, when a Client asks me for somewhere a bit ‘different’ in Barbados, I almost always go straight for Little Arches and Little Good Harbour. Two very different properties with the former being in the South, close to St Lawrence Gap and all it’s fun life in the evenings and particularly close to Oistins for the friday night street party and wonderful fish fry, bringing locals and tourists from all over the island. The latter, Little Good Harbour is on the west coast but north of the ‘West Coast strip’ of hotels, closer to Speightstown, a charming little non-touristy, almost run-down looking town (look for the charming as there’s plenty to find). Little Good Harbour has the famous Fishpot restaurant and it’s fishing village offers it’s own Friday fish fry. The only potential downside to Little Good Harbour is that it’s easier to get out and about with a car – hence the real hideaway feeling.

Call us at Barbados Travel Deals to chat about it as there is still public transport – and obviously taxis – that can take you into the more populated areas if you wanted. An escape from Barbados glitz right in Barbados!

After the luxury level of the world renowned Sandy Lane hotel, there are a number of Superior 5* hotels on Barbados. Coral Reef Club, The Sandpiper and the Fairmont Royal Pavilion to name but a few. The Fairmont offers some special complimentary touches which makes you feel you’re getting the personal pampering that takes you away from it all.

There is a 5*+ service for everyone but in addition, the 24 Beachfront Junior Suites offer:
• butler service
• fast track VIP airport arrival service
• complimentary evening canapés
• extended room space – 650sq ft
• sun lounger private terrace – 250sq ft

Although the Royal Pavilion is an adult-only hotel for almost half of the year, from mid-March until the end of October and over Christmas and New Year, children are welcomed with open arms with family/kids movie nights and talent shows and plenty of watersports for all ages.

Barbados’s most famous caves are Harrison’s, this large cavern full of beautiful features is one of the top attractions on the island and well worth a visit. However, a much lesser publicised adventure is the Animal Flower Cave in the parish of St Lucy at North Point.

It is off the beaten track as is most of the north of the island. Tourists tend to stick to the West and South coasts with surfers and visitors to the East Coast. The North however, is often missed and yet has some of the most stunning scenery on the island. Head for the Animal Flower cave and even if you don’t go inside, you’ll be captivated by the spectacular views from the cliff sides, but do go inside for a bigger wow factor as you can swim in the natural pools and see these views through the cave openings. This series of caves at sea level with a 400,000 year old coral floor have been eroded by the sea and are now populated by sea anemones and flower-shaped animals.

Barbados is coming towards the exciting climax of the festivities of Cropover 2012!

This Sunday, 5th August, is Cohobblopot, held at the Kensington Oval. Cohobblopot, traditionally a big pot of a mixed stew, is the penultimate concert at Cropover with local and international performers and an utterly vibrant atmosphere.

Followed the next day – a national holiday in Barbados – by Grand Kadooment, the grand finale of this annual festival, and the main attraction for visitors – many visiting especially at this time.

Grand Kadooment is the carnival where thousands of masked and boldly dressed and colourful merry-makers dance, calyso style through the streets of St. Michael’s parish. From Warrens to the National Stadium and then down to the Spring Garden Highway towards Bridgetown. Many thousands line this 5 mile+ route – it is a thrilling and uplifting experience and the climax of the Cropover festival.

Plan your holiday for next year in Barbados and let Barbados Travel Deals help you arrange your dates to ensure that you’re on the island in time for your favourite events.
